SA Energy Crisis

According to Eskom chairman Valli Moosa the energy crisis in South Africa is “is very, very, deep. It is systemic, it is real, it is material.” Mr. Moosa was speaking at a public hearing held by the National Energy Regulator of SA (Nersa) in May 2008 into Eskom’s application to hike the price of electricity by 100% (60% and 40%) over the next two years. According to Eskom officials, Eskom will spend R343- billion over five years and R1.3-trillion in the longer term to increase generation capacity after years of no investment.
